IN GOD’S ARMS: Douglas Wheatlake - April 3, 1952 - February 4, 2009
“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31.
On February 4, 2009, after a seven year battle with multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer), hundreds of arduous treatments, including bone marrow transplants and stem cell treatments, Jesus came and lifted Doug upon His wings and carried him home to be with Him forever.
Doug “fought the good fight, he finished the race, and he kept the faith. Now there is in store for him the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to him…” 2 Timothy 4:7
Doug was preceded in death by his Mother, Estelle, and it’s been rumored that they are now riding a bright red motorcycle together through Heaven!
He is survived by his wife, Vickie, and two children, Patrick and Burton, his father, Burton, stepmother, Phyllis, two sisters, Linda and Chris, a brother, Don, and many nieces and nephews.
And, as God would have it, He is replacing Doug’s light on earth with a new baby, Paul, due in August, to Doug's niece, Kim, and her husband, Jake.
Doug was a special educator, a special brother, son, husband and father. He lived his life with grace and strength, just as he carried on throughout his illness, an inspiration of hope through Jesus Christ to all who crossed his path.
You will be very missed Douggie…but we know that you lived your purpose fully…that Patrick and Burton were able to grow into young men in the past seven years, and that your lessons in courage and love of the Lord will be a blessing to them in years to come.
God bless you! We will see you in the sweet bye-and-bye.
